Printable coloring pages for anxiety can help unwind the mind and relax the body at the same time.
Did you know that according to Beaumont.org “Coloring has the ability to relax the fear center of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind. This generates mindfulness and quietness, which allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work.”
Coloring is much more than what it seems from the outside. It’s not just a child-like hobby that involved coloring within the lines and making something pretty come from crayons or markers.
Coloring goes far beyond the simple act of color to paper.
Printable Coloring Pages for Anxiety
Coloring pages aren’t just for kids. Adults have picked up on their magical powers and for the last several years adult coloring has become quite popular.
Adult coloring books and pages are every where and they even have full on online communities devoted just to adult coloring. Search adult coloring on YouTube and find endless amounts of videos on the topic.
But, why is adult coloring all the rage?
Benefits of Coloring for Adults
Stress reduction
When you’re doing something repetitive and that requires attention to detail it can aid in reducing stress and put you into a meditative state of mind.
Puts you into a meditative state
When you think about it, adult coloring has the power to put you into a meditative state with all the little details, and repetitive nature of coloring. When in a meditative state your mind and body relax more.
It’s pleasurable
The simple act of filling a page with color can be so pleasurable and satisfying. And who doesn’t need a little fun in their lives?!
Coloring works the brain
Coloring is more than just left brain, it also uses your right brain, and therefore coloring is a full brain workout. You need to use your left brain and your right brain while coloring which makes this hobby quite unique.
Helps with your sleep
According to WebMD coloring can help with your sleep. They say that if you color before bedtime instead of scrolling your phone it allows melatonin to flow which helps your body fall asleep.
It allows you to feel more childlike
Think back to your childhood for a second and you’re likely to recall coloring. It was likely one of your favorite things to do as a child, allowed you creativity, and when completed would be hung up on the fridge from pride of it’s completion. You can relive the same feelings when you’re coloring as an adult.
Coloring allows you to be creative
Adult coloring allows you to be creative without the need to be artistic. You might not be able to draw a picture but you can certainly color inside lines of a beautiful picture and be proud and excited by the final result. Coloring allows you to find creativity in choosing the colors of the page or even choosing if you’ll use crayons or markers or another medium.
Distraction at its finest
Let’s face it, we adults have a lot going on in our lives and that can weigh heavy on our minds. Sometimes we just want to get away from the worry and stress of thoughts and unwind – coloring helps you do all of the above. It requires your mind to focus and that can help distract you from whatever thoughts have been weighing you down.

Coloring Goodies I Recommend
Maybe you want to level up your coloring game from spare crayons and pencils you see laying around the house to a set that is more recommended for adults but you need ideas of which to purchase.
Here are items I use and love!
72 Colored Pencils
These pencils are affordable, creamy soft, and some in a wide variety of colors which makes coloring fun and enjoyable. You don’t need a fancy name branded pencil to enjoy a coloring experience. However, if you do want to level up your coloring, I love Faber Castell Polychromos 36 Pencil Studio Set sold on Amazon.
Sharpener
I love this little powerful sharpener. It sharpens well, evenly, and is small and easy to bring with you in your pencil case.
If you want something tailored for colored pencils you can look into this sharpener as an option. The Prismacolor sharpener has two points, wide and sharp.
Papers
You’re going to want good paper to color on, not just your average printer paper. You can use cardstock or even higher quality paper. I recommend this site for more information on paper types.
Wrapping it up
Coloring is so much more than just pencil to paper. It can help with stress, it can relax you, it can help with meditation, creativity, and much more. I hope you find a few fun coloring pages to start with and supplies to help make the most out of your experience.
